Cal falls in OT

Cals championship run falls in overtime after COC goal at the 11:06 mark. Congrads to Cal and all they did to get this far. Everyone for Cal played put of their mind this week.

Cal starts the scoring but still going OT

Nate Bohn scored the games first goal after a tie up infront of the net. Then with just a few mins to go College of the Canyons got the tying goal. Cal has gotten lots of pressure to the net just need to keep it up and get the golden goal.

no change after 2

Cal has continued to get pucks to the net but just can't beat their goalie. The refs have delt put several penalties but neither power play has been able to convert on the man advantage.
Hope is up 5-2 with just over 5 to play.

after the first tied at 0

After the first Cal is locked at 0-0 but out shot them 18-7. There have been many chances just have not put it in yet. Both teams have had shortened power plays each only getting 30 seconds on the power play.
As for the Hope Central Florida game Hope leads it 2-0 half way through the second.

Cal wins 4-2

Cal advances to face College of the Canyons tomorrow at 9:45 am. Jones scored the game winning goal on the power play and Hill got the 4th goal while killing a penalty with under 3 mins left.

Cal up but needs more

Cal has been able to kill off the 3 penalties against them in the second including 45 seconds of 5 on 3. Ierardi tied the game with his goal after the tie up in front of the net. Then Jones added a goal on the only power play they have had. The third will start with a 4 on 4 for 18 seconds then it will be a Vulcan power play for 1:36. Cal still needs another goal and blank them.

down 1 after one

Cal did a good job killing off the only penalty of the period but allowed a late goal. The lone penalty was a charge against Graw where he dumped a player head first in to the Cal bench.

Davenport won now what

So now Cal needs to beat Florida Gulf Coast to go to tie breaker. The first which is fewest goals against. Davenport is set with 11 Cal has 7 and FGC has 6. So Cal has to win by 2 with out giving up more then 4. 3 and under they win the pool. If the give up 4 it goes to next tiebreaker, goal differential for the tournament.

after 2 Davenport still leads

Davenport got 2 more goals against McKendree but McKendree answered with a goal late to go in down 3-1

other pool info

After 1 Davenport up 1

Recap of yesterday

Pool A

College of the Canyons 5 Loyola 4

Pool B

California 3 Davenport 4 OT

Pool C

Central Florida 5 Colorado state 2

Pool D
University of Colorado 8 Florida Atlantic 4
Hope college 0 Robert Morris 1

What needs to happen for Cal to advance.
If McKendree beats Davenport then it will be a head to head with who ever wins the Cal vs FGC game.
If Davenport wins then Cal needs to beat FGC by 2 goals to advance. The reason for the 2 goal win is to win the tiebreaker.

The Davenport/McKendree game will conclude before the Cal game begins so they will know what needs to be done.

As for yesterdays Cal game bottom line if they had won or tied they still would have needed to win today.

UPDATE

2 of the officials have been suspended from the rest of the tournament.

Cal on wrong end in OT

After the wrong call was made on Jones it was down hill from there. Many of times it seemed as tho it was 5 on 8. Cal still controls fate if they win tomorrow they still win the pool

Cal going to overtime

This game changed in a heart beat. Davenport scored 3 to go up 1 goal. Then Cal tied it up. There is no break before OT so I will update after OT

Cal up but star tossed

What a period! Shane Ierardi got the lone goal for Cal to extend the lead to 2. That is where we stand after 2. That is not the big story though, Ryan Jones has been tossed. Ryan was carrying the puck up and Gleason hit a player from Davenport. Yet the back linesman said he saw 12 hit him. Replay clearly shows Jones did not hit Davenport player. The officials have been shown the video and there is nothing they can do to reverse the call. The back linesman who made the call said if I got the wrong number sorry. Sadly the third will be played without number 12 but he will be in tomorrow against FGC.

Cal gets late lead

Cal got a very late goal from Beam to start the scoring off. The shots were dead even with a slight advantage to Cal 11-10. The lone goal came right after a huge kill of a 5 on 3 for nearly a min.

day 3 pre game

Today started late since Cal has the late game of the day. In other pool play, Florida Gulf Coast won again to improve to 2-0. Cal looks relaxed for this game and ready to go.

Then with the game wrapped up, McKendree got the last goal of the game with 7 seconds left. Cal outshot them 44 - 18.

still tied after 2

A period which McKendree seemed to come alive. Cal still got the better of them putting up 19 shot to McKendree 10. McKendree started the scoring with a goal from Rolla just moments after Hill rang one off the crossbar. Then with under 3 to play Jones stole the puck and was able to beat their goalie to tie it at 2. McKendree took a late penalty that will carry into the 3rd.

Cal 1st game

In a period, which Cal controlled the tempo by out shooting them 14 - 2 Cal resumes tied. Hill took the only penalty for a low hip check called tripping. Moments after the kill, Bohn got the scoring started taking the pass from Posa. Then just 2 mins later Boeschen got McKendree on the board. Cal was unable to convert on its 1 and only power play which was called for a slash that took Jones down where he lay for a few moments. He would be out for his next shift and looking good.

day 2 pregame

This morning members of the Cal team took in the first game of the national tournament where Florida Gulf Coast beat Davenport. FGC was clicking on the power play and the tempo was controlled by FGC.
Now it is Cal's turn to take the ice against McKendree University.

During the practice there was a team meeting held at center ice. Several of the coaching staff worked out the goalies on breakaways while others worked on puck control and stick handling. Practice conclued with player run drill.

Cal forces a game 3

Behind a strong performance all around. Getting 3 more goals in the third period.
Cal wins 8-3. Game 3 Sunday at 7:50 at blade runners in bethal park.

Cal remains in lead after 2

RMU got an early goal on the carry over power play to tie the score at 2. Cal came back to get the next 2 goals from Bohn and Tonini. Unfortunatly Cal gave up another short handed goal in the period with Faust in the box for a slash. Cal yet again answered that goal just mins later with a goal from Battista. Cal continued to dominate in the shots beating RMU 24 to 15 in the second and leading overall 42-24. Cal still holds it's 2/1 lead in penalties.
End of 2 California 5 Robert Morris 3

Cal jumps to early lead

Less then 24 hours after the ot heartbreakers Cal was back on the ice vs RMU. Tonight it looked like they wanted to take care of business. They started with an early goal just 5 mins in by Tonini from Bohn. Then with under 5 mins to go Hill extended the lead to 2 goals. Game 1 Cal 6 RMU 7

Cal started the game off strong but just could not put RMU away. Cal led in just about every stat except the one that counts, goals. Cal out shot RMU 49-38. Nick Campbell kept his team in the game making save after save. Another place that Cal had issues was the penalty box taking 42 PIM to RMU's 28. On the evening the big scoters for cal were Jones with 2 goals and 1 assist. Battista tallied 2 assists on the evening. Gleason, Bohn, York, and Tonini all got goals with Hill, Miller, and Faust getting a help. The game was fast tempo and physical all night. As usual the fans for both sides did not seem to agree with many of the calls/no call.
Cal will return to the ice to try and tie the series at 1 game each in the best of 3 tomorrow night at 8:00pm.

Cal drops game one to RMU

RMU scoring the game winner just 5 mins into over time. The game winning goal came from Manetta. Game 2 tomorrow at 8:20.

In to Overtime we go

A period that started early with a power play goal by Ryan Jones 2 mins in had no scoring until 3 mins to go when Dan Tonini scored. Then with the goalie pulled and just 22 seconds left on the clock Jones scored the tying goal. To over time we go!!!!!

A lot has changed

At the end of the first period Cal led it after 3 unanswered goals it is now RMU who has put up 5 unanswered goals by Boyle, Bogden, and the hat trick by Faulkner. Also at the end of the first Tim Johnson was between the pipes now Shane is in after RMU scored the 5th goal Johnson took a 10 min. Misconduct. Robert Morris has started to crash the net and get bodies in front on the net and seems to be working for them. Cal has also fallen to subject to penalties including giving up the first of the 5 on a 5 on 3 kill. Cal has now taken 10 penalties vs 8 for RMU. On the plus side Cal will be starting the period on the power play for a 1:30. After a first in which Cal out shot RMU by 19 to 8, RMU took the second by out shooting them 21 to 13.

Here is to a comeback...

After first cal leads 3-1

In a first that had 27 shots 4 found their way past the goalies. RMU started the scoring at 13:33 with a goal from Hosko. Then Cal put up 3 unanswered goals by Gleason, York, and Nate Bohn. Cals first goal was put in after a roughing call on Martin of RMU. So far the penalties have been even at 3 for Cal and 3 for RMU.

California vs Robert Morris AGAIN!!!

After a over time winner against University of Pittsburgh Johnstown. In which UPJ was badly outshot the prevailed in overtime on a goal by Dan Tonini. Cal now moves on to a championship series against RMU.
This will be the fifth straight year that Cal is the championship and Cal has won the prior 4 times. RMU will be looking to capture its first CHE Championship since 2000. This will also be the second year in a row where it is a Cal-RMU championship series. Cal swept them last season in the series and they swept the 3 games this season. Back in late October Cal went to RMU and beat them 5-3. Then early November Cal hosted RMU at Consol Energy Center in front of a huge crowd and took that game 7-5. Then Cal beat them for the last meeting of the regular season on their banner night 4-1.
Cal will take on RMU Friday night at 9pm at Bethal Park Blade Runners.
